Manchester United are closing in on a move for Romelu Lukaku, with BBC Sport reporting a £75 million fee has been agreed with Everton.
The transfer would be the biggest ever between two English clubs, and is a separate transaction to any move involved Wayne Rooney heading in the other direction.
Chelsea are expected to try and challenge United for Lukaku’s signature, and it is little surprise there is so much interest in a striker who netted 26 goals last season.
United could only finish in sixth placed last season but managed to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
They are in need of a striker with last season’s top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving the club this summer, released after picking up a serious knee injury.

Lukaku’s reported move puts pressure on United’s rivals, among them Liverpool – who have a choice between starting Daniel Sturridge or Roberto Firmino up front next season.
The Reds have not been actively pursuing a striker and appear to be content with the present state of play, focusing instead on other areas of the side, with defence and midfield priorities.
