Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Manchester City’s £52m Mendy move

Manchester City clinched the signing of Benjamin Mendy.

Manchester City have continued their summer spending spree by signing Monaco full-back Benjamin Mendy for £52 million, BBC Sport report.

The left-back helped Monaco beat City in the Champions League last season, and replaces Gael Clichy and Aleksandr Kolarov who have departed the club this summer.

Liverpool were reported to be competing with City to sign Mendy earlier in the transfer window, with left-back a position of need.

Sky Sports reported earlier this summer that Mendy had turned down Liverpool’s approach with City his favoured destination.

The fee City paid was more than Liverpool were willing to commit for the left-back, with the Reds settling for the bargain addition of Andrew Robertson from Hull City, for an initial £8 million payment [BBC Sport]

The worry for Liverpool fans is that they will pay on the pitch, having settle for a cheaper option.

Mendy is a top talent and City have one of Europe’s best left-backs in their team for the foreseeable future.
