Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius kept a much needed clean sheet as the Reds recorded a vital victory last night.

After their stunning win over Manchester City in mid-January, Liverpool suffered consecutive defeats in the Premier League and FA Cup to Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

Last night saw them beat Huddersfield Town 3-0, with Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah (penalty) scoring the goals.

Karius continued in goal with Simon Mignolet dropped, and this game was an important step forward for him.

The German goalkeeper was expected to become number one when he signed for Liverpool in 2016, but injuries and poor form have seen him consigned to the sidelines until this month.

The Reds are still expected to move for a new goalkeeper in the summer, but Karius has a few months to try and persuade them he deserves the number one spot.

It is a long shot, with fans sceptical he is good enough after previous evidence suggested otherwise, but last night’s performance was a step in the right direction.
