Liverpool secured a 2-0 win in their friendly game against Adelaide United.
Liverpool’s preparations for the new season continued in impressive fashion as the club secured a solid win over Adelaide United in Australia, with a 2-0 victory.
It would have been a pleasing performance for Brendan Rodgers for a number of reasons, as new signings James Milner and Danny Ings were the men to get on the score sheet, which gave the club a lead they protected well.
The pre-season schedule is a great opportunity for the new signings to bed in and impress the boss, as they look to settle into Anfield life quickly and effectively.
The friendly games are also a good opportunity for the club’s younger players to grab the attention of the manager and one player who will have impressed Rodgers with the potential of his performance is Jordon Ibe.
Ibe produced a very good performance against Adelaide, which has been made more significant by the recent departure of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.
Sterling’s exit means there is a hole, which needs to be filled in a wide position for the Reds creating a double edged dilemma for the manager.
Rodgers has to decide whether to go out into the transfer market to try and sign a player who is similar to Sterling in terms of what he can offer, or he can trust the options that he already has available in his squad.
Ibe will certainly be hoping for the chance to prove that he can be someone who plays a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League season.
However, even if he is confined to performances in the domestic cup competitions and the Europa League then he has to be ready to take his chances when called upon to do so by the boss.
Here’s what Liverpool fans had to say about Ibe’s performance on Twitter.
