James Milner came through the ranks at Leeds United, with some Liverpool supporters thinking that he could be heading back to Elland Road when his contract runs out.

James Milner of FC Liverpool controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League group E match between KRC Genk and Liverpool FC at Luminus Arena on October 23, 2019 in Genk, Belgium.

Liverpool supporters on Twitter would like to see James Milner sign a new contract, but they won’t be surprised if he ends up at Leeds United if they earn promotion to the Premier League.

Popular figure Milner, who came through the ranks at Leeds, recently stated that he hopes his future is resolved ‘sooner rather than later’ with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.

Whilst Milner doesn’t start every game for Liverpool, he is still a very important cog in Jurgen Klopp’s wheel that is hoping to drive towards the Premier League title this season.

Milner helped Liverpool win their sixth European Crown in June, and if he does end up leaving Anfield next summer, he will want to leave by ending their title drought.

Leeds are hoping to end their own drought, and that is to earn promotion back to the Premier League, something which could potentially have a huge significance in Milner’s future judging by the comments made by the Liverpool faithful.

Marcelo Bielsa of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Preston North End and Leeds United at Deepdale on October 22, 2019 in Preston, England.

Whilst they would love him to stay at Anfield, they can understand that the scenario can change if Marcelo Bielsa can lead the Yorkshire giants back to the promised land.

Once again, it is looking likely that Leeds will be heading for a nervy promotion race, with the club currently sitting second in the table.

Of course, before the months in Milner’s contract run out, he can end all speculation and pen his future to Liverpool, a decision which would be a wise move from Liverpool’s perspective.
