The Liverpool supporters were delighted with what they saw from Georginio Wijnaldum at Anfield on Saturday.
A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to laud Gini Wijnaldum after the midfielder’s stunning performance during the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Brighton on Saturday which sent Jurgen Klopp’s men to the top of the Premier League table.
It was perhaps not a vintage Liverpool performance against the Seagulls. The home side controlled much of the game and threatened more often than Chris Hughton’s side did, but they struggled to put the game to bed after Mo Salah gave them an early lead.
Brighton held their own and tested Alisson on a couple of occasions, but it is Liverpool who moved themselves to the top of the table with the three points, leaving them two clear of Manchester City, who drew earlier in the day at Wolves.
Despite the close result, there were a number of hugely impressive performances from the Reds, and perhaps none impressed the fans more than the display from Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman has often struggled to prove that he can be a key man for Liverpool over a sustained period, but his start to the new campaign has left a number of supporters believing that he has now taken his game up a level.
The 27-year-old was exceptional on the ball and misplaced just one pass during the entire game, and that has prompted many of the Kop to suggest that the former Newcastle ace has been the club’s best player so far this term.
