Former Liverpool forward played in the Europa League last night… at right-back.
It seems like an eternity ago that Brendan Rodgers proudly signed Fabio Borini for Liverpool.
Despite the Italian’s determination to succeed at Anfield, he was never quite up to it, and even when he left in 2015 he had outstayed his welcome.
After an unsuccessful spell at Sunderland, Borini somehow managed to secure a move to AC Milan in the summer.
Last night he was in action against Arsenal… playing at right-back.
It was not a position any of his managers at Liverpool or Sunderland had even considered playing him in, and was seen as a mark of how his prospects as a striker have fallen.
Borini has scored just three goals this season, and he has found himself utilised at almost every position except up front.
As well as playing at right-back, Borini has been used by Milan on the wing, and as a defensive midfielder.
The 26-year-old should at least be thankful he is in the side, and has the favour of manager Gennaro Gattuso, but considering Milan’s past legendary right-back Cafu, seeing Borini lining up there sums up how far they have fallen from being one of Europe’s dominant sides.
