Everton’s efforts to win the battle of Merseyside this season have so far fallen flat, despite heavy investment in the summer.
The Toffees languish well outside the Premier League top six, while Liverpool are in third place after a terrific season.
But Everton are not twiddling their thumbs and just hoping for improvement, instead they are throwing money at their problems, first signing Turkey striker Cenk Tosun a week ago and now splashing out on proven Premier League attacker Theo Walcott.
Walcott clinched his big move to Goodison Park yesterday, ending a decade long career at Arsenal which he can be proud of despite failure to win a league title.
The speedster is hoping the move can re-ignite his England career, after a frustrating start to the season which saw him fall out of favour at Arsenal and subsequently the Three Lions.
Everton need Walcott to come good, and manager Sam Allardyce has previously worked with him for England.
Walcott was previously been linked with a big move to Liverpool during Brendan Rodgers’ time at Anfield, but was determined to stick it out at Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger’s decision not to pick him for Premier League games this season forced Walcott’s hand, and now he is embarking on a new challenge at Everton.
