Liverpool lost 6-1 to Stoke City on Sunday but what did Reds fans think of Emre Can’s contribution?

It was not how Liverpool fans expected their season to end, nor how departing skipper Steven Gerrard would have envisaged his farewell performance going, but as it was Stoke City defeated the Reds 6-1 in their final league game of the season.

Stoke were 5-0 up at half-time, courtesy of a Mame Biram Diouf brace and strikes from Jonathan Walters, Charlie Adam and Steven N’Zonzi, with second-half goals coming from Gerrard and Peter Crouch.

While none of Liverpool’s players had a game to remember for the right reasons, summer signing Emre Can is likely to look back on the match with particular disappointment, after the young German was taken off at half-time with Stoke well on top.

Can was signed as a central midfielder but so far this season he has been used predominantly in defence, either as one of three centre-backs or as a right-back.

It was in the latter position where he featured for Liverpool this weekend, but manager Brendan Rodgers opted to replace him as he sought to change the flow of the match in the second period.

After the game we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Can’s performance – and treatment – and you can read a selection of what we found below:
