While Liverpool fans often find delight after seeing their bitter rivals Manchester United lose, this match up gave them further reason to soak it up.
Feyenoord possess two former Liverpool player in their ranks, with both playing their part in the Dutch side’s 1-0 victory over United.
Captain Dirk Kuyt remains a firm favourite in the red half of Merseyside after a six-year spell at Anfield.
His 71 goals in 285 appearances included a famous hat-trick against United in a 3-1 win in March 2011. And was hoping for a similar experience at the De Kuip on Thursday evening.
Marcus Rashford and co. would also be up against Brad Jones in net in the Europa League group opener.
Believe it or not, the Australian spent five years at Liverpool after joining from Middlesbrough.
After failing to nail down a first choice spot, Jones made just 27 appearances, none in the Premier League, between 2010 and 2015.
Feyenoord is the keeper’s third club since leaving after brief spells at Bradford City and another Dutch side NEC.
The Liverpool supporters weren’t too disappointed to see the two depart after Jones failed to make an impression and although adored, Kuyt performed poorly in his final campaign.
