Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by De Gea’s Manchester United on Monday.

It’s not often you’ll see a Manchester United player praised by Liverpool fans – but this is one of those times.

The United number 1 was typically excellent in Monday’s 0-0 draw at Anfield, saving the hosts’ two most threatening attempts during the second half.

First, De Gea dug out Emre Can’s low drive before tipping away Philippe Coutinho’s curler at the fullest of full-stretch to preserve a point for Jose Mourinho’s team.

In fairness, he was one of few players on either side who was determined to live up to the hype which preceded this otherwise dull fixture.

And Liverpool fans – albeit mostly reluctantly – were prepared to give credit where it was due.

This was perhaps especially significant given the criticism Liverpool’s own goalkeepers Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, who got the nod against United, have faced this season.

Though some are hopeful that Loris will overcome his early struggles in the same way De Gea has done following his own tough start at Old Trafford, others it seems would welcome a trade.
