Philippe Coutinho has signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool so what did Reds fans make of the news?

Liverpool fans may not have seen any new arrivals on transfer deadline day, but they only had to wait a few more hours before a major announcement regarding one of their stars.

Philippe Coutinho has now signed a new long-term contract at Anfield, which will come as great news to those fans who have seen him up his game in recent weeks, becoming a consistent threat rather than a sporadic creative catalyst.

Coutinho signed for Liverpool from Italian side Inter Milan in January 2013 for a reported fee of £8.5million.

Since then he has gone on to make 81 appearances for the Reds, scoring 10 goals and setting up a further 20.

His creative impulse is clear as his recent run of assists demonstrates, but the trick for him now is to become a consistent goal-threat because, quite simply, a player of his quality should have a much better goals-to-games ratio than he does at present.

Following the news we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Coutinho’s new deal and you can read a selection of what we found below:
