Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Benedikt Howedes from Schalke.

With Southampton staying resolute in keeping hold of star defender Virgil van Dijk, it seems Liverpool have finally moved on to other targets.
The 29-year-old German defender doesn’t fancy moving to any rival Bundesliga club, but the report suggests that he is open to a move abroad.

Howedes has been playing for Schalke throughout his career after making senior debut in 2007, and has made over 330 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The German international, who has 44 international caps under his belt, would reunite with Joel Matip at Merseyside, should he make the move.

Central defence is one area where Jurgen Klopp needs to bolster. With Dejan Lovren unconvincing, Joe Gomez needing time to settle in, and Mamadou Sakho not being in Klopp’s plans, signing an experienced defender is of paramount importance.
Liverpool fans took to social networking site Twitter to express their view on the player, and judging by their reaction, they want the player to be signed.
