Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn is reportedly heading for the Anfield exit, with a loan move to League One on the cards.
When Ben Woodburn broke Michael Owen’s record and became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer in 2016, the fans appeared to have every right to be seriously excited about the academy prospect.
His first call-up to the Wales senior squad came soon after and his first goal for his country came on his international debut. The Reds seemed to have something special on their hands.
However, less than two years after that goal against Austria, Woodburn has gone on to make just two further appearances for Liverpool’s first-team, and is now reportedly on the verge of leaving on loan.
The Daily Mail reports that he is heading into League One with Oxford United in the hope that a spell with Karl Robinson’s men can get the forward back on track.
Unfortunately for Woodburn, the reports that he is heading for the Kassam Stadium have led to plenty of Liverpool fans on Twitter suggesting that he is almost certainly finished at Anfield.
With the Reds continuing to progress under Jurgen Klopp, Woodburn already looked to be facing a huge uphill battle trying to force his way into the first-team picture on Merseyside. And some believe that he now has too much work to do.
The supporters are reluctant to completely write the 19-year-old off. But the reports that he is now heading for the third tier do look to be ominous.
