Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has left the club on loan for the season.

He is heading to the Bundesliga to join Hertha Berlin, Liverpool’s official website confirmed.

Grujic has also signed a contract extension with Liverpool.

The midfielder was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at Liverpool, joining from Red Star Belgrade in 2016.

He has spent most of his time in the under-23s, before joining Cardiff City on loan last season and helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

BBC Sport reported that Cardiff boss Neil Warnock was keen on re-signing the Serbian international, but a deal could not be agreed before the Premier League transfer deadline.

Liverpool could have sent Grujic back on loan to a Championship side instead, yet chose Hertha Berlin.
