Liverpool fans have demanded the club make a move for Riyad Mahrez after Manchester City stepped up efforts to sign the Algerian.
SkySports reported that City have had an offer in excess of £50 million for Mahrez by Leicester.
City have been hit by an injury to Leroy Sane which threatens to keep him out for a couple of months.
Mahrez was linked to Liverpool at the start of January as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.
He was an ideal fit, a proven Premier League star, eligible for the Champions League, and in excellent form.
Liverpool’s reluctance to move appears set to give City their chance to make a late transfer.
Fans have been calling for the Reds to make a late bid of their own, but there is also a feeling of resignation that there is little chance of it happening at this point.
Instead there is frustration that City are being totally ruthless in the transfer market and acting with real ambition, while Liverpool are not showing this same drive.
