Antoine Griezmann will seemingly leave Atletico Madrid this summer.

Antoine Griezmann of Club Atletico de Madrid looks on during the La Liga match between Club Atletico de Madrid and Sevilla FC at Wanda Metropolitano on May 12, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann made headlines last summer by televising the decision over his future, as he announced he was staying put rather than joining Barcelona.

Just a year on, that show means absolutely nothing, as Griezmann has now confirmed that he’s leaving Atletico this summer to pursue new opportunities.

BBC report that Barcelona are expected to pay the €120million (£104million) release clause in Griezmann’s contract, finally making the move many expected him to make last summer.

The 28-year-old has hit 21 goals and 10 assists for Atletico this season, and will now move on this summer, though Barcelona won’t be alone in the pursuit of the French World Cup winner.

English clubs may yet eye up a move for Griezmann, with Manchester United linked in the past, but Liverpool fans think he could be a smart addition at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is likely to pursue a new striker this summer, and whilst a signing worth more than £100million would be a shock, some think Griezmann is worth the investment.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter last night to urge Klopp to make a cheeky late bid for Griezmann, believing he’s a talent that the Reds need to take another step forward, even if he’s seemingly close to Barca already.
