The Liverpool play-maker wore the captain’s armband against Australia this week.

Liverpool play-maker Philippe Coutinho may not be everyone’s idea of captain material, but the Reds supremo was handed the armband for Brazil’s clash against Australia on Tuesday and he did not disappoint, playing his part in a 4-0 victory.
Brazil took the lead after just 14 seconds, when Diego Souza scored the first of his two goals, while Thiago Silva and Taison also got on the score sheet.

Coutinho himself failed to score or assist on the day but he looked good in the centre of the park, bossing the game and leading by example.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to keep hold of Coutinho for as long as possible, with the 25-year-old an integral part of the German’s squad, as his 14 goals and nine assists last season testifies.
With five more years on his current contract, Liverpool have no reason to cash in on Coutinho any time soon, but rumours persist that his future could be away from Anfield.

As his importance for Brazil grows, so does his reputation and the need for Liverpool to win the silverware that should keep him happy for the long term.
