Alisson has arguably been the Premier League’s best goalkeeper since he made his big money move from Roma to Liverpool two years ago.

The Brazilian is one of the biggest reasons why Jurgen Klopp’s men have been so good recently, but the Reds had their fair share of problems in that position before he arrived.

Simon Mignolet was brought in to be the long-term number one, yet his performances weren’t good enough. Adrian is the club’s second choice now and, despite a few good performances, he has shown that he is prone to regular errors.

Between Mignolet and Alisson/Adrian, there was a certain German who was brought in to solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping crisis. The Reds signed Loris Karius from Jurgen Klopp’s former club Mainz for £4.7 million in 2016. (Guardian)

The German signed a five-year contract and took the number one shirt at Liverpool with the hope of being a regular for the club. However, the excitement around Karius didn’t last long, as the now 27-year-old became enemy number one after his 49th game for the club.

The former Mainz man started the Champions League final against Real Madrid back in 2018 and his mistakes cost Liverpool the game in Ukraine.

That, sadly, was his last game for the Reds as he was sent out on loan to Turkish side Besiktas. Karius is now back with Liverpool and the German featured in a training session with the first-team in Austria.

Liverpool fans, despite their issues with him previously, seemed happy to see him back in the squad. Some of them even urged Klopp to keep him as a backup to Alisson for next season, which would be a huge boost for Karius’s confidence after everything he has been through.

Here is how a few Liverpool fans reacted to Karius’s return:
