A number of Liverpool fans have lauded Danny Ings after the forward scored during Southampton’s Carabao Cup clash with Everton on Tuesday night – with some Reds supporters suggesting that letting him leave Anfield in the summer was a mistake.

Ings is still technically on Liverpool’s books, but he has already made his final appearance for the club with the Saints set to make his loan permanent next summer for a fee of £20 million – as reported by Sky Sports.

The striker has made a fantastic start to life at St Mary’s with his goal just before half-time at Goodison Park proving to be his fourth in just seven appearances for Mark Hughes’ men.

It was to be a great night for the Saints in the end. Despite former academy starlet Theo Walcott equalising, Southampton booked a trip to Leicester City in the fourth round with a penalty shootout win. Ings would score the visitors’ first in the shootout.

The fact that Ings scored again and against the Toffees definitely did not escape the attention of some Liverpool fans on social media.

Ings’ quality has never been in doubt, but his time on Merseyside was plagued by injury and when he returned to full fitness, he was looking to break into a team that boasts one of the best attacks in Europe.
