Leicester City are out of the Carabao Cup after losing on penalties to Manchester City on Tuesday night – but Liverpool fans got a major laugh out of the night.

The Foxes, who lost at Crystal Palace over the weekend, rotated their side for the visit of City on Tuesday night, with Claude Puel criticised for his team selection.

City took a first half lead thanks to a stunning long-range hit from Kevin De Bruyne, but they couldn’t kill the game off, with Mark Albrighton bringing Leicester level.

The game went to penalties, and it’s fair to say the quality wasn’t great in the shootout, but Pep Guardiola’s men ended up advancing 3-1 on penalties.

One player who really flopped in the shootout was City star Raheem Sterling, as he attempted to score a Panenka – chipping the ball down the middle – but ballooned his effort over the crossbar.

Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward was then seen laughing in Sterling’s face; the pair were at Liverpool together, before Sterling moved onto City in 2015, and the Welsh stopper was able to mock Sterling for his miss.

Liverpool fans unsurprisingly spotted Ward’s laughter, praising him for getting one over on Sterling, with some claiming the shot of him laughing at Sterling is ‘the image of the year’ and has made some supporters’ week, with others noting that Ward is ‘always a Red’ having mocked the ex-Liverpool ace.
