Liverpool have been linked with Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Liverpool have been quiet in the summer transfer window, with youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott brought in for the future.

The Reds have less than two weeks to do any more business, and there could be some changes in the goalkeeping department at Anfield.

Alisson is the undoubted first choice stopper for Jurgen Klopp, but with question marks over Simon Mignolet’s future, another stopper could be eyed.

The Daily Mail now report that Liverpool hold an interest in Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, though any move would surely depend on Simon Mignolet leaving the club.

Heaton, 33, has been a solid and dependable goalkeeper for Burnley, even earning England recognition for his performances at Turf Moor.

The former Manchester United stopper has just one year left on his contract though, and with Nick Pope potentially ousting Heaton this season, he could be on the move.

Aston Villa want Heaton too, but it seems unlikely that Heaton would take a move to another club where he would be second choice – and it seems unlikely that he can supplant Alisson.

Liverpool fans now been taking to Twitter to react to the rumour, suggesting that he would be a perfect backup to Alisson and much better than Mignolet.

Others think that Liverpool may be taking a step back by targeting Heaton whilst rivals are targeting bigger players, and believe there would be little chance that he would accept a move to be second choice even at Anfield.
