Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore wrote on his column in The Mirror urging one Premier League superstar to make a shock move to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool convincingly won the Premier League title last season. The Reds are looking to defend their crown against the likes of Manchester City next term and, to do so, they are reportedly looking for a creative midfielder.

Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara is said to be their number one target this summer and Liverpool fans would love him, especially after his performance in the Champions League final last night.

However, Collymore thinks there is another player who would make Liverpool’s midfield ‘untouchable for the next four or five years: Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Collymore wrote: “De Bruyne hasn’t yet played for a massive club because Chelsea and Manchester City come with B-grade expectations. At Wolfsburg, it’s a C and Belgium are more of a dark horse than front-runner.

“The only way he can really stamp his greatness on the game is by joining a club at which he’d have A* expectations and, at the height of his powers, there isn’t a better time for him to do that. De Bruyne would be the perfect fit for Liverpool.

“If they could make that happen then Liverpool wouldn’t just go on to win multiple Doubles and Trebles but they would have a midfield that is arguably untouchable for the next four or five years.”

De Bryune would be a dream signing but it’s just not possible

Yes, De Bruyne would improve Liverpool’s midfield, just like he would improve almost every other team in world football. The Belgian is arguably the best midfielder in the game, but there is simply no way that Jurgen Klopp can pull off this signing.

Manchester City would never sell him to a direct rival and, even if they do, the transfer fee involved would make Virgil van Dijk’s price-tag look cheap.

Liverpool fans took to social media to respond to Collymore’s views. Some of them felt that they are better off without him, while others claimed it was a dream that can never become a reality.
