Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet played a back-up role to Alisson Becker last season, and will now seemingly do the same next term as he is set to stay.

Liverpool supporters on Twitter have expressed their delight on Twitter after a recent report suggested that Simon Mignolet is set to stay at the club.

The Times recently claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with Mignolet’s attitude during a season where he was dethroned from the number one spot by Alisson Becker.

That news was a surprising turn of events from Liverpool because the Evening Standard recently claimed that the Reds are in the market for a backup keeper and Mignolet could be offloaded.

During the previous campaign, Mignolet had to watch on from the sidelines as Alisson produced the goods in between the sticks for the club as they recorded 97 points in the Premier League and won the Champions League.

If Mignolet is still part of Liverpool’s set-up next season then his best chance of earning game time will be through the domestic competitions.

Whilst Klopp’s side produced the goods in the other competitions they competed in, they didn’t do so well in the League Cup or the FA Cup – Chelsea and Wolves knocked them out of those competitions last term.

Mignolet will be hoping his team can do much better ahead of the new campaign as the Premier League title will no doubt be top of their agenda.

Given the reported news that Mignolet is set to stay and the seemingly positive reactions from the Anfield supporters, it just goes to show how much of a popular figure he is on Merseyside.
