Manchester City set their marker ahead of the new Premier League campaign by beating Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Liverpool fans on Twitter are absolutely baffled that Glenn Hoddle decided to award Kevin de Bruyne Man of the Match during Manchester City’s Community Shield win against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the encounter on penalties, but before that, with the game level at 1-1 apiece, BT Sport pundit Hoddle handed the MOTM award to playmaker De Bruyne.
In the game itself, De Bruyne wasn’t the standout performer as he faded away in the game, but it was his return to action following a number of injuries last term.
One of the reasons behind Hoddle’s decision to award the Belgian with the award because of his return, which further baffled the Anfield faithful.
But many Liverpool supporters weren’t surprised by his comments as they believe the former England man is an awful pundit.

In the game itself, centre-back Joel Matip scored late on to cancel out Raheem Sterling’s early opener, with Kyle Walker pulling off an outstanding goal-line clearance following an effort on goal by Mo Salah.
The Reds did miss numerous chances as they would have been disappointed that they didn’t score more than one goal, but City have set the marker once again ahead of the new season.
Liverpool will now focus their attention on their Premier League opener, which starts on Friday with a home clash against newly-promoted Norwich City.
Here is a selection of Liverpool fans reacting to Hoddle’s comments:
