Liverpool were ‘beaten’ to the signing of Memphis Depay by Manchester United.

Manchester United are on the verge of selling Memphis Depay to French side Lyon, just over 18 months after signing the winger.

The Guardian report a fee has been agreed, with Depay already in Lyon to agree personal terms.

It has been a quick fall from grace from one of Europe’s most in demand wingers, and when United signed him, they were the envy of clubs across the Premier League.

Among those to express their unhappiness in May 2015 were Liverpool fans, upset at the Reds missing out on the Netherlands international.

While it was disappointing at the time, and even more galling to listen to United fans gloating, Liverpool supporters are having the last laugh.

They went on to sign Roberto Firmino instead, who has been a much better addition, becoming one of the most exciting attackers in the Premier League.

Depay did not even start a league game under Jose Mourinho, and was dropped by Louis van Gaal last season, not even making the FA Cup final squad last season.

The change in circumstance for Depay has not gone unnoticed by Liverpool supporters, who have been quick to poke fun at United fans via Twitter…
