Liverpool returned to action this afternoon to compete in the Dubai Super Cup where Jurgen Klopp’s side fell to a 3-1 defeat to French giants Lyon.

The second match of the competition, a strong Merseyside XI featuring the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara took to the field against Lyon as Liverpool threw away a 1-0 lead to their Ligue 1 opposition, with former Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette bagging a brace.

The performance overall wasn’t one that Klopp will be proud of. However, one player who impressed on the day was Liverpool goalscorer Fabio Carvalho, who found the back of the net within seconds of kick-off as the youngster gave the Reds the perfect start.

Carvalho only joined Liverpool this summer in a reported £7m deal from Fulham, and the 20-year-old winger has been something of a breakout star in the Premier League for the Reds, with the attacker bagging two goals in the top fight.

With the Premier League returning in two weeks, Klopp will be hopeful that his Reds can get back into shape ahead of their Boxing Day clash against Aston Villa. Yet for many fans on social media, Carvalho was impressive against Lyon despite the disappointing team performance.

Here’s what some Liverpool fans had to say on Twitter about Carvalho’s early goal against Lyon and the winger’s overall display against the Ligue 1 titans in Dubai…
