The Reds defender impressed in 2018-19, helping the Anfield side win the Champions League and becoming indispendable for Jurgen Klopp.

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on a training-ground video posted by the official Reds account showing Joel Matip “racking up the nutmegs”.
The 27-year-old defender enjoyed a superb season on a personal level last time out, starting 2018-19 as a largely peripheral figure and arguably the club’s fourth-choice centre-back.
However, he ended the campaign as one of the team’s best performers and an Anfield fan favourite as well as, of course, a Champions League winner.
With Liverpool’s pre-season underway and optimism high, the Reds feed posted a clip of Matip and his teammates doing a training drill (video available by clicking the link):
Here is what some Kopites wrote in response on the social media platform:
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Matip had accumulated a total of just 276 Premier League minutes on the pitch by mid-January, but come the end of the season he played every minute of every Champions League knockout fixture – except against Porto at Anfield – as well as the full 90 minutes in 14 of the final 16 league games.
