Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is struggling for playing time this season and could end up leaving the club on loan for Aston Villa.
Gomez has only managed 13 minutes of Premier League action this season and now appears to be fourth-choice centre back at Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are all ahead of Gomez now, and that isn’t ideal for the former Charlton Athletic man.
Gomez wants to be playing in order to play for England at the World Cup next year.
Gomez may need to leave Liverpool to do that, and it sounds like Steven Gerrard wants him at Aston Villa.
The Sunday Mirror (p72, 28/11) report that Gerrard wants to lure Gomez to Villa in January.
Liverpool legend Gerrard is seemingly seeking a favour from the Reds, just as he did at Rangers with deals for Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo.
The rumour is a little surprising though given that Villa already have Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings, Axel Tuanzebe and Kortney Hause.
Liverpool fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the Gomez rumours, with some believing it just won’t happen.
Others actually think this is a ‘great move’ for Gomez and Liverpool, believing the defender needs regular playing time.
Some want the deal done come January, suggesting that Gerrard can have whoever he wants from Liverpool…
