On Saturday evening Liverpool will face Premier League champions Leicester City in their first home match of the new season.

It will be the first time Liverpool fans will get to experience the newly-expanded Main Stand at Anfield, which can now hold over 20,000 fans on a matchday.

The new 54,000-capacity Anfield is now the fifth biggest football club stadium in England, rising above Newcastle’s St. James’ Park and Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.

Manchester United, Arsenal, West Ham United and Manchester City are the only four teams in England with bigger stadiums in terms of capacity.

However with three of those stadiums being built in the 21st century, the fact that Liverpool have managed to remain at their original home ground will be seen as a big positive for the club and its fans.

The Reds will be hoping that the famed Anfield atmosphere will only intensify as a result of the expansion, and an already fearsome place to go for away teams has just become even more intimidating.
