Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu – and fans seem mixed on the idea.

Where has Bazunu to Liverpool come from?

The Sunday Mirror (05/12, p65) reported Liverpool are leading a number of clubs in the race for Bazunu.

It’s said City are worried enough over the whispers to be considering a new deal for Bazunu, despite handing him a contract only last year.

Bazunu does look more likely to stay at City, but Liverpool are seemingly watching his situation closely.

Who is Gavin Bazunu?

Bazunu, 19, joined City from Shamrock Rovers in 2018. He had been playing senior football in Ireland from the age of 16. A number of clubs wanted Bazunu, but he picked City.

After heading out on loan to Rochdale last season, Bazunu is thriving on loan at League One promotion-chasers Portsmouth this season.

Bazunu is in a battle with Liverpool stopper Caoimhin Kelleher for the Republic of Ireland jersey too. It’s a battle Bazunu is winning and he’s considered to be one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe.

Liverpool fans react

Liverpool fans seem split on the Bazunu rumours. Some feel Bazunu isn’t required because Jurgen Klopp already has Kelleher.

Many don’t think Bazunu would leave City for Anfield anyway, believing he wouldn’t get the necessary playing time.

Others think Bazunu is “amazing” and “incredible” – and are begging Liverpool to make an “insane” move.
