Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to comments from Nabil Fekir on his failed transfer to Jurgen Klopp’s side three years ago.

What’s the story?

Fakir has told The Times that he was close to joining Liverpool from Lyon back in the summer of 2018.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has said that he even met Liverpool manager Klopp.

However, according to the France international, there was a problem with his then agent, and the move fell through.

Fekir joined Real Betis from Lyon in the summer of 2019.

The Frenchman told The Times: “Of course I was disappointed not to go to Liverpool, very disappointed because Liverpool are a great club.

“I met the coach, Jürgen Klopp, and it went well. After meeting him, I wanted to join Liverpool even more. He’s a good person.

“It was really difficult to deal with as I really wanted to go to Liverpool. It was a moment that was not easy for me.”

What are Liverpool fans saying?

As you can see from the tweets below, Liverpool fans are disappointed to see comments from Fekir about his failed transfer to Anfield.

Well, some of them anyway.

It seems that Fekir would have loved to join Liverpool, and it must be bitterly disappointing for him not to get his dream move.

Could a transfer happen in the future?

Never say never.

However, it does seem unlikely now.

Fekir is 28, and Liverpool generally do not tend to buy players in their late-20s or early 30s.

Moreover, Liverpool do not tend to play with a central attacking midfielder, and Fekir may not actually fit the way the Reds play now.
