Liverpool suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night at Anfield after a much-changed side failed to cope – and Liverpool fans have blasted Simon Mignolet.

Jurgen Klopp made the brave decision to make nine changes to the side that also suffered a loss to Premier League champions Manchester City last time out. It included teenagers Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones.

Even 16-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever entered the field of play just six minutes into the match after Dejan Lovren suffered an injury. Klopp’s changes and naivety cost Liverpool their FA Cup place, though.

Indeed, Wolves took the lead through an excellent finish from Raul Jimenez after James Milner gave the ball away in midfield and Fabinho dived in. Divock Origi equalised out of nothing, but Wolves always looked more likely.

It was Ruben Neves who won the match, as the Portuguese maestro stroked home an excellent effort from 25 yards that whizzed past Mignolet. But many Liverpool fans are frustrated that the Belgian failed to stop the shot.

Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to Mignolet’s inability to keep out Neves’ rasping drive, with many seemingly fed up with the ex-Sunderland stopper. He remains Alisson’s back-up, but some want the £60k-a-week (Spotrac) goalkeeper gone.
