Liverpool fans don’t want Simon Mignolet to start Wednesday’s clash with Porto.
Loris Karius has gone from villain to hero for Liverpool in the space of a few weeks.
The German displaced Simon Mignolet as the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the year and, despite a few iffy moments – like in the 4-3 win over Manchester City – Jurgen Klopp has kept faith.
And that faith paid off handsomely on Sunday as the 24-year-old posted arguably his best performance in a Liverpool shirt during the 2-0 win over Southampton.
Karius, signed from Mainz in 2016, made a series of fine saves to thwart the Saints and fans of the Anfield club are desperate to see Klopp start him again in Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Porto.
The alternative would mean Mignolet coming back in for it and Liverpool supporters have made their feelings on the Belgian perfectly clear.
Worryingly for Liverpool fans, they might see the 29-year-old instead.
Karius started all six of the Reds’ group-stage games, but that was when he was number two and considering Mignolet is now the back-up, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Klopp revert to playing the former Sunderland man.
That being said, the margin for error is far slimmer in a last-16 tie than it is for a group-stage outing, so perhaps the German manager will name his strongest XI available and that involves Karius for now.
