Should Liverpool promote Steven Gerrard to the first-team assistant manager’s role?

Steven Gerrard is a Liverpool legend and one of the greatest players in the club’s history, and the former England international midfielder has been linked with Rangers.

According to Sky Sports, Gerrard is expected to continue talks with Rangers this week regarding the managerial job at Ibrox.

Graeme Murty is in charge of the Gers at the moment, but the Glasgow giants’ recent results and performances have not been great.

Gerrard is currently in charge of the Liverpool Under-18 side, but a new position has just opened up in the senior team.

As reported by BBC Sport, Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac will not be part of the team until the end of the season due to personal reasons.

This means that manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a new assistant manager, and Liverpool fans have been discussing the prospect of that being Gerrard.

While some Liverpool fans are in favour of the 37-year-old becoming the first-team assistant manager, others do not think that the former Los Angeles Galaxy star is qualified enough.

Genuine question here. Other than sentiment why do people think Gerrard should be assistant manager? If someone managed Arsenals U18s for one year for example would anyone be asking for him to be assistant?? No.
