The Liverpool man was solid against Nigeria in the opening game, but will arguably face a far sterner test in Nizhny Novgorod with Barcelona talisman Messi looking to make amends for his penalty miss against Iceland.

The 30-year-old was Argentina’s danger man during the 1-1 draw, but couldn’t quite inspire his side to victory as the plucky Scandanavians held on.
He’ll no doubt be looking to take out his frustrations on Croatia, who currently top Group D after beating Nigeria 2-0, and Lovren will have to bring his A-game.

At times last season in the Premier League Lovren was suspect, and even had to deal with death theats after a particularly poor showing against Tottenham Hostpur at Wembley. His form improved drastically towards the end of the season, though.
