Liverpool fans on Twitter are renewing their appeal to sign Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch sensation impressed in his team’s Champions League quarter-final with Juventus in Amsterdam on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old defender has been repeatedly linked to Liverpool in recent months and admitted that he ‘could’ join them in an interview with Omnisport in March.

The Sun have previously reported that he is worth around £70 million to Ajax.

And some fans of the Anfield club are desperate to see him on Merseyside.

In an ideal world, this would happen, but it’s not an ideal world and there will be fierce competition for his signature.

But if Liverpool stump up the cash they have more than a decent chance of landing him, given that Virgil van Dijk, his Netherland team-mate, is with the Reds.

Van Dijk is arguably the finest defender in world football right now, and the prospect of learning from him on a daily basis would surely interest De Ligt.
