A number of Liverpool fans were confused as the Reds left James Milner out of the man of the match poll on Twitter.
A number of Liverpool fans responded to the club’s man of the match poll on Twitter following the Reds’ 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, expressing their surprise that James Milner was not included in the shortlist.
Jurgen Klopp’s men moved themselves to the top of the Premier League with a narrow victory over the Seagulls at Anfield, with Mo Salah scoring the game’s only goal midway through the first-half.
It was not the club’s most eye-catching display of the campaign, but there were a number of notable performers in the win. And after the contest, Liverpool announced their four-man shortlist for the man of the match award.
Goalkeeper Alisson was joined by Joe Gomez, Gini Wijnaldum and Salah in the poll, and it was the Brazilian who won the award ahead of Wijnaldum, while the goalscorer came third.
The four players certainly staked a claim to be included, but there were a large number of Liverpool fans who could not quite understand why Milner was not involved in the voting as they felt that he was superb against Brighton.
Milner continues to prove one of the most important players in the Reds squad, easily turning his hand to the different roles required of him and the supporters were lauding him on social media after the contest, and not exactly sure why the club were not doing the same after their latest win.
