Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.

Referee Damir Skomina awards a penalty during the UEFA Champions League Final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on June 01, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

Liverpool supporters on Twitter have hit out at Glenn Hoddle after he suggested that they should not have been awarded a penalty during their Champions League final win against Tottenham.

After all the build-up to the game, the drama showcased itself within the first minute when the referee judged that the ball hit Moussa Sissoko’s arm inside the penalty area – Mo Salah converted the spot kick.

During his punditry stint with BT Sport, Hoddle felt that Liverpool ‘got lucky’ with the penalty decision and the only real quality of the game came from Divock Origi’s late goal, as quoted by Football.London.

It is fair to say that Hoddle’s comments didn’t sit well with the Anfield faithful, who felt that he was being bitter about what happened on the night.

Aside from Christian Eriksen, there wasn’t much of a protest from the Tottenham players when the penalty kick was awarded which is perhaps an indicator that the right decision was made.

On the night itself, both teams didn’t produce their best game, but Jurgen Klopp’s side found the back of the net when it mattered most and walked away with their sixth European trophy.

Here is a selection of Liverpool fans on Twitter reacting to Hoddle’s comments:

Despite a lacklustre performance from both teams, not many people would argue that Liverpool were deserved winners on the night.

It is the first trophy under Klopp’s reign for the Merseyside club, whilst Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to add a trophy to Tottenham’s cabinet next season.
