Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is impressing for the Reds.
Liverpool fans are growing increasingly convinced Joe Gomez can develop into Virgil Van Dijk’s long term defensive partner.
The club paid £75 million to sign Van Dijk in January and despite a spending spree in the summer, they have not made another defensive addition since.
World Cup finalist Dejan Lovren is out with an injury and Gomez is stepping up in his absence.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is growing to become a big fan of Gomez, who was particularly impressive on Monday night against Crystal Palace.
Klopp told SkySports in late July: “Joe Gomez, playing in that role as a central defender, he combines a lot of things you don’t find on the transfer market so I don’t see the need at the moment.”
Gomez has endured bad luck with injuries during his time at Liverpool so far, and he is due a bit of good fortune.
If this is the season he stays healthy, the sky is the limit in terms of how far he can go, and Dejan Lovren will face a real fight to get back into the team.
