Timo Werner hasn’t even played for Chelsea yet and already Liverpool fans are starting the banter.
Liverpool had been heavily linked with a move for the former Leipzig hitman for much of 2020 so far.
In fact, Sky Sports even reported at one stage that Werner was all ready to join Jurgen Klopp’s side, who it turned out couldn’t afford his release clause in Germany.
He wound up joining the Blues in a £47.5 million deal – but some fans of the Anfield club were in stitches as television cameras found him during yesterday’s defeat by Arsenal.
Frank Lampard’s side lost the FA Cup final to the Gunners and Werner cut a disconsolate, lonely figure in the stands, tapping away at his phone.
And Liverpool supporters were all making a joke that he was texting Klopp to bring him to Merseyside.
It’s a bit of early ribbing, but Werner is most probably going to have the last laugh. He might not fire the Stamford Bridge club to the Premier League title, but he will more than likely be a big hit in the Premier League and Reds fans won’t be laughing much longer if he hits the ground running in England.
