Some Liverpool fans are gleaming with pride after one of their former sons scored against Arsenal tonight.

The Gunners kicked off the new Premier League season with a trip to newly-promoted Brentford.

And it was a certain Sergi Canos who scored the first goal of the 2021-22 campaign, rifling one past Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno at the near post midway through the first half.

The Spanish attacker spent three years on Liverpool’s books after joining from Barcelona’s academy in 2013.

Here’s how some fans of the Anfield club reacted to his goal tonight:

Brave

The 24-year-old joined Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers’s reign eight years ago but only managed one Premier League appearance.

According to The Irish Independent, the Reds – then under Jurgen Klopp – actually wanted to keep Canos on Merseyside.

But in a very brave move, the Spaniard left in search of first-team football, ultimately joining Norwich City in 2017.

It has been a very long road back to the Premier League for Canos but, as he’ll tell you himself no doubt, it was worth the struggle.
