Dominic Solanke scored a brace to fire England into the final of the under-20 World Cup with a 3-1 win over Italy.

Solanke played a key role in England’s under-17 European Championship win in 2014, playing with much of the same side and finishing as top scorer.

He has yet to fulfil his potential at club level, scoring at a prolific rate for the youth team before a loan to Vitesse Arnhem and a contract dispute held back his progress.

Just over a week ago he sealed a move to Liverpool, signing as a free agent with his contract set to run down.

With his future settled, Solanke is back on form, and has scored four goals in six games at the tournament so far.

Still only 19, Solanke has bags of potential and Liverpool have signed an absolute bargain.

Reds fans are hoping he can become their own Harry Kane, an English striker who can save them spending tens of millions of pounds in the transfer market by becoming prolific at Premier League level.

Kane scored 29 goals in 30 games last season and has two Golden Boot awards in a row. There are now realistic questions about whether he can challenge Alan Shearer’s all time Premier League record.

If Solanke can go on to get in that conversation as well then Liverpool will be laughing, and Chelsea fans cursing the fact they have let him slip through their grasp.

Here is a look at some of the comments on Twitter after the win over Italy…

Even Chelsea fans are wistfully making the comparison…
