The inaugural UEFA Nations League is in the books, as hosts Portugal claimed a 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final on Sunday.

Portugal beat Switzerland 3-1 on Wednesday night to reach the final, before the Netherlands also won 3-1 just a day later, dumping England out of the competition.

Porto’s Estadio do Dragao played host to a Portugal win, with Bernardo Silva setting up Goncalo Guedes for a second half winner.

Fernando Santos will be delighted to have followed up the 2016 European Championships with the UEFA Nations League, establishing Portugal as a major force in Europe once again.

As for the Netherlands, they’ll be delighted with the progress made under Ronald Koeman after missing the last two major tournaments, but one player hasn’t impressed.

Lyon attacker Memphis Depay endured a hit-and-miss night against England, before offering up even less against Portugal, and Liverpool fans have been paying close attention.

Mercato365 recently noted that Liverpool have been looking at the former Manchester United flop ahead of a possible move, and fans urged him to sign when talking to Reds ace Georginio Wijnaldum on Twitter.

However, Liverpool fans appear to be souring on the idea, taking to Twitter to urge Liverpool to keep him as far away from Anfield as possible, believing that the forward was ‘terrible’ and ‘poor’ with the Netherlands, adding that he’s simply not good enough for a move to Merseyside.
