A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to criticise BBC Sport pundit and Premier League legend Alan Shearer for not including Sadio Mane in his Team of the Week.

The Reds attacker was thoroughly impressive as Jurgen Klopp’s charges ran out 2-1 winners over Leicester City at Anfield at the weekend, their eighth consecutive win in the league.

Starting on the right, Mane gave Ben Chilwell a torrid time, but was back on the left as he raced away from Jonny Evans to score the opener for Jurgen Klopp and co.

The Senegal international then led Liverpool’s attacking charge in the second half as they retook the lead late on through James Milner’s penalty after James Maddison’s 80th-minute equaliser.

While Milner is in Shearer’s XI, his three-pronged frontline consists of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Aaron Connolly, Aston Villa’s Wesley Moraes and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.

Here is what some Liverpool fans said on social media in response to Shearer’s selection:

With the international break putting a halt to Premier League proceedings, Liverpool will next be in action on Sunday 20 October when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
