Liverpool are desperately trying to bring Fulham talent Fabio Carvalho to Anfield – and he showed exactly why with a fine goal against Manchester City.

The Reds chased Carvalho before last Monday’s transfer deadline and appeared to have a deal done at around £10million.

However, there just wasn’t enough time to get the deal done as Carvalho also had to finalise a loan return to Fulham as part of the deal.

90Min claim that Carvalho wants to play for Jurgen Klopp and Fulham still think the playmaker will join Liverpool this summer.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Carvalho would still cost compensation – just like Harvey Elliott did after leaving Fulham for Liverpool.

Liverpool will keep a watching brief on Carvalho, and they must have been impressed against Manchester City.

Sure, Carvalho’s Fulham lost 4-1 away at City in the FA Cup, but the teenager grabbed a superb early goal for the Cottagers.

It may look like an easy goal, with Carvalho converting a Harry Wilson cross from close range, but it was actually incredibly smart.

As Fulham broke forward, Carvalho appeared to be jogging slowly to position himself for a cut-back towards the edge of the box.

Yet once John Stones was attracted towards a teammate, Carvalho sprinted in behind him to fire home unmarked inside the box.

This was outstanding awareness from Carvalho, who understood where the space was going to be perfectly.

That’s the kind of thing Liverpool will love to see, and this goal may just give them a glimpse of the future.

Liverpool and City have formed a fierce rivalry in recent years, and the Reds need to find signings who can keep challenging Pep Guardiola’s men.

Liverpool don’t quite have City’s budget, so going for teenagers like Carvalho, who could become absolute stars, is vital.

This just one goal against City for Carvalho, but Liverpool will be hoping there are many, many more to come in the future – only for Klopp rather than Marco Silva.
