But things have changed. The winger has been getting limited minutes under Xabi Alonso and is now reportedly open to a move.
CaughtOffside reports that if his playing time does not improve, Rodrygo would not rule out a switch to the Premier League.
A number of clubs are keeping an eye on his situation, with Liverpool and the rest of the Big Six showing interest.
The move might not happen until summer, but there is still a chance it could be sooner. He wants to secure his place at the 2026 World Cup and may not want to wait that long.
Rodrygo linked with Liverpool, but Antoine Semenyo might be the better fit
Rodrygo’s name has come up once again, but even with all his experience at the top level, his £70m price tag feels steep for someone not regularly starting.
This season, he has not registered a goal or assist yet, and his best league tally is just 10 goals. That does not exactly match what Liverpool are looking for right now.
Antoine Semenyo’s numbers are not much higher – his best is 11 – but he has shown more consistency and has already proven himself in the Premier League.
With a release clause set at £65m, he presents a slightly lower-cost option and would therefore be a less significant risk overall.
