Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the progress of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who has emerged as one of the most promising young players in Europe this season.

In his debut campaign for Leipzig, the 18-year-old winger has quickly made an impact, registering four goals and two assists in just 11 appearances.

Despite his age, the Ivorian forward has already established himself as a regular in Ole Werner’s starting line-up. That consistency has not gone unnoticed back at Anfield.

According to Rousing The Kop, Liverpool scouts have been tracking Diomande’s development throughout the season and remain keen to see how he progresses over the coming months.

The Reds are understood to be firmly in the mix for Diomande, despite significant interest from other clubs.

Leipzig spent about £18m to bring Diomande in over the summer, despite the forward having just 10 senior games under his belt.

The club’s recruitment team saw enough promise to include a €100m release clause in his deal.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey thinks growing interest from Liverpool and other clubs could see Leipzig make a sizeable return on their investment.

Bailey said to Rousing The Kop: “Diomande is an extraordinary talent. Everyone loves him and Liverpool are one of those, this boy is remarkable, he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

“12 months ago, he was playing high school football in America. He is one who everybody wants, a special, special player and Liverpool are in the mix for sure.

“He’s got a 100 million release clause, they paid 20 million Euros for him in the summer after he had only been playing football for six months. That shows you how much they liked him, their scouts did a brilliant job.”

How Yan Diomande’s path took shape

Despite competition from players like Johan Bakayoko and Antonio Nusa, the teenager has already forced his way into Werner’s plans.

His journey from DME Academy in Florida to the Bundesliga has been rapid, and he is no stranger to overcoming long odds. Even before turning 19, he had already made an impact with two goals in his first two senior appearances for Ivory Coast.

“Dio’s journey at DME Academy has been nothing short of exceptional.

“His dedication to improving his game day in and day out is truly inspiring. He is not just a gifted athlete but also a team player who understands the importance of collaboration and unity on and off the field.

“We are incredibly proud of his achievements, and we believe this is just the beginning of an extraordinary career,” said Thales Peterson, the former director of soccer at DME Academy (via Bundesliga.com).

In 2023, Rangers decided not to sign him. By November 2024, he had joined Leganes from DME. Now, just a year later, he is attracting attention across Europe – a remarkable rise by any standard.
