All three Premier League clubs have seen themselves linked with Alberto Moreno of Sevilla. But now he has signed a new deal with his club.
This summer gone both Merseyside clubs had their eyes peeled for a quality left-back acquisition. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers made this clear in a very public announcement regarding the weakest area in his team.
Everton on the other hand were doing so as more of a contingency plan. Manchester United were in touch over bringing Leighton Baines to Old Trafford – and while Everton obviously had no desire to sell – everyone has their price.
In the end he went nowhere – so Everton need not make the move, although he is still reportedly keen on a United switch.
But one player who both teams were tentatively linked with this summer, as a solution to their positional shared interest, was Sevilla and Spanish Under-21 full-back Alberto Moreno.
Manchester United also reportedly sent scouts to check him out recently, but while the hope would have been to snap up a bargain, that is now no longer the case.
Everton and Manchester United Baines alternative on verge of new deal
Yesterday was a big day for Moreno. Vicente del Bosque has included him in the Spanish squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches – the first time the left-back has been given the call to play for the senior national side.
And on the same day, the rumour that has rumbled for a couple of weeks now has finally been confirmed as true – Moreno has signed a new deal with Sevilla, putting an end to transfer speculation regarding a switch to the Premier League.
Moreno was obviously pleased with the new commitment from the club:
“I’m the happiest kid in the world. After renewing with the team I have always wanted to be at, the truth is that this is the great thing for a player and especially for me. I have been part of the club for 10 years and now I have received this reward, which I believe is merited. I am very happy. The commitment from Sevilla is clear to me. I have five years here and I want to enjoy them.’’
The deal is now said to contain a whopping €30 million release fee – so he is going nowhere on the cheap, or soon. His new deal runs until 2018, which is a long term commitment from the player.
So he doesn’t seem to be on his way to the Premier League anytime soon.
