Liverpool did fancy signing Erling Haaland but one meeting over a potential deal was enough to scare the Reds away from an expensive deal.
Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm since his move to Manchester City this summer.
The Norwegian arrived with a big reputation but he may have even exceeded the lofty expectations that preceded him.

Other Premier League clubs will wish they had a striker like Haaland but pulling off a deal was pretty difficult.
Whilst the fee involved for Haaland was reasonable thanks to a release clause, but agent fees, signing-on fees and wages meant the deal was hugely expensive.
City were the only Premier League club that could realistically secure Haaland’s signature and Liverpool were simply blown out of the water.
The Times report that Liverpool did hold one meeting with Haaland’s representative to explore a potential move to Anfield.
However, it’s stated that a deal would have cost at least £300million all in.
That’s £100million for the release clause and additional fees as well as nearly £800,000-a-week in wages and bonuses.
Liverpool were never going to commit to that kind of outlay even if they would have loved to lure Haaland to Merseyside.
Liverpool ended up signing Darwin Nunez instead and the Reds certainly knew the difference.
Whilst Haaland was pretty much a sure thing, Nunez is a little more raw and needs some time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
The Uruguayan will hopefully challenge Haaland for Golden Boots moving forward but Liverpool just have to be patient with their new striker – and hopefully keep Haaland quiet this afternoon.
